Puppy Education and Care

Bringing home a new puppy is exciting, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming. Our goal is to help you feel confident and prepared as your new Frenchton settles into their forever home.

This page will continue to grow and be updated with helpful information, tips, and breed-specific education to support you through every stage of your dog’s life.

The first 48 to 72 hours can feel like a big adjustment for your puppy.
You may notice:

 • Whining or crying, especially at night
 • Reduced appetite or mild stomach upset
 • Extra sleeping or quiet behavior

This is completely normal. Your puppy has just left their littermates and familiar routine. Patience, consistency, and comfort are key during this transition.

Helpful tips:
 • Keep the first few days calm and low stimulation
 • Limit visitors initially
 • Maintain a regular potty schedule
 • Offer comfort items such as their blanket from us

The first few      at home

days

During the first weeks, your puppy is learning everything.

Expect:
 • Frequent naps
 • Short bursts of high energy
 • Ongoing potty training accidents
 • Teething and chewing behaviors
Consistency builds confidence. Puppies thrive on routine, gentle structure, and positive reinforcement.

We recommend:
 • Crate training for safety and routine
 • Scheduled feeding times
 • Supervised play
 • Short, positive training sessions

The first few       at home

weeks

Your puppy will go home eating the food they are currently on. Sudden food changes can cause stomach upset.

Feeding & Nutrition

 • Fresh water
 • Age-appropriate puppy food
 • Limited treats during the adjustment period

Always provide:

 • Do so slowly over 7–10 days
 • Mix increasing amounts of new food gradually

If transitioning:

Veterinary Care

Your puppy will go home with:
• Age-appropriate deworming
 • First set of vaccinations
Your veterinarian will guide you on:
 • Vaccine schedule
 • Parasite prevention
 • Spay/neuter timing
 • Nutrition and growth

We recommend scheduling your first vet visit within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home.

Socialization & Training

Early socialization is critical, especially for Frenchton puppies.
Continue exposure to:
 • Household noises
 • New people
 • Gentle handling
 • Car rides
 • Leash introduction

Always keep socialization safe and age-appropriate until vaccines are complete.

Frenchtons are loving, intelligent, and loyal companions. Like all breeds, they can have specific health considerations that owners should understand.

This section will be updated as new educational information becomes available.
Common topics include:

IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease)
Frenchtons may be at increased risk due to their structure. Preventative care includes avoiding excessive jumping, using ramps, maintaining a healthy weight, and supporting proper muscle development.

Allergies & Sensitivities
Some Frenchtons may experience food or environmental allergies. Symptoms may include itching, ear infections, or skin irritation. Diet, grooming, and veterinary guidance play an important role.

Weight Management
Maintaining a healthy weight greatly reduces strain on joints and spine.
